I thought the size would be perfect, and it has an incredibly great energy star rating. None of that makes any difference if the freezer won't work, and it doesn't. It ran for a little bit, never got appropriately cold, and the thermostat appeared to have no effect. Then it just stopped working altogether. I found a review on a different site by someone who had a similar experience. Beware, potential buyer.

Because it's such a large item, Amazon shipped it with a shipping company instead of usual couriers (understandable). After a lot of calls with them to find an appropriate time, we received it.
We wait a day after receiving to plug it in (something I was always told is to not plug in a fridge/freezer right after moving, for some reason). Anyway, plug it in next day and wait a full day for everything to get to normal temperature. For the record, we could have used it within an hour, because this thing is _fast_ at freezing.
Day after it's all cooled off, we start migrating our fridge freezer contents to this one. A bunch of meat, some fruit, ice cream, etc. First couple days, everything is totally fine.
Then, disaster struck. On about day 5, I noticed the freezer stank of bad meat and the ice cream was squishy. I think "darn, must have forgot to close it one day", so I write off the meat and have some ice cream after setting the temperature to 7 (it came defaulted to 4). I hear the freezer fire up and I assume everything is good again.
On day 7, I begin to get suspicious at how quiet the freezer has been. I open it up to find that the meat I was waiting to throw away had this time totally melted and the inside of the freezer was rather warm. I double check that the breaker hasn't blown, that the outlet still has power. I go through the manual to see if there's any mention of this happening. Nothing. Darn.
Call up Danby and find their local authorized support people and get them to come and inspect the unit. Turns out the temperature control unit (ie the very thing that keeps the freezer a freezer, and not a large upright food coffin) was being dysfunctional. He proved this by pulling it out and connecting the wires directly and it stayed on perfectly.
It took just over a week to get Danby to send a replacement part and have it installed by the tech guy. Since then (it's been about a week again), everything is working fine. We didn't put any food in the first week after repair in case it broke down again. To test it, we froze some water in a container on an angle, then put it in this freezer to see if it would shift. Everything looks normal.
So, maybe this is a protip I missed in Freezer Buying Class 101, but I've learned to not put all your meat in a freezer if you just get it. Let it prove itself before it's worthy of holding the precious food cargo it was designed for.
I gave it 3 stars because of the lackluster performance at the end of the first week, but it redeems itself by having a decent warranty and for not having broken (yet) a second time.

Completely died after 3 weeks! Entire freezer full of food destroyed. Offered to replace with new freezer but I would have to haul the broken one upstairs and haul the new replacement back down the basement. Their shipping only delivers to the garage or front porch. They don't replace or cover your lost items even though it was due to a defective freezer.
