This little machine puts out a lot of ice for it's compact size. It's perfect for the 2 of us. We've had it for about 6 weeks now and run it almost every day since the ice maker on our refrigerator broke. The motor that shovels the finished ice into the bucket seems to get stuck sometimes so I'm not sure this thing will hold up over the long haul. I read darn near every review out there before I made this purchase and I think all ice makers are plagued with problems...buying one (by ANY manufacturer) is a bit of a gamble, in my opinion. It was worth it since I no longer have to deal with the icicles that form in the freezer from leaky trays and the hassle of constantly filling and emptying trays. The cubes are soft enough that I can put them in my refrigerator's ice bin and still use that. The only thing is that they need to be frozen solid, not wet, or they will form a big chunk in the dispenser. We just throw the cubes in a big zip lock bag after they come out of the ice maker, freeze that for an hour or so, then slam the bag on the counter to break up the cubes so they flow freely into the dispenser. If this unit does not hold up, I will update my review.

the ice maker works as should but it came with only one leg, three missing so not stable. No way to let anyone know that parts were missing. Probably a rebuilt machine that they forgot part of the parts. Would take at least 24 hours to make 27 lbs of ice as stated but it does work.

Wife got tired of seeing me filling ice trays in January and bought one. Worked great for three months. Would then stop with red light coming on to add water when water level was full. She would clean and it would work for a few weeks, then same problem over and over every few weeks.
Today same problem, but noticed water flow was slow. Drained unit, added vinegar with a tad of lemon juice. Pressed power on, let run till flow stopped, pressed power off. Repeated 4-5 times, power on-off till flow improved like when new. Drained and refilled with water. Repeated on-off 4 times to clean out vinegar. Drained, and refilled. Works like new again. We do use a Doulton ceramic filter to ensure only clean water go in. Great product, but use it or loose it.
UPDATE: Turns out there was a problem with the unit filling the tray. While filling about half the water was missing the tray. Called em and they emailed instructions and prepaid return label to return for repair. In the mean time we ordered a Koldfront ice maker from Amazon which arrived quick and appears to be the same unit with a different name for less money. It is working great so far and we will have a spare when the SPT returns from repair.
Update: July 9, 2013 received same SPT unit back. Also a call that they replaced a bad circuit card. Trips the same GFI outlet that did not trip before sending in for repar. Trips two other GFI outlets, all on separate breakers from each other and the original outlet
. Will work plugged into a NON GFI outlet. Filling tray correctly,. Dumping very small ice cubes. After 40 minutes, dumps full size ice as before. What did they do to cause it not to work on a GFI? Will call them tomorrow.
Update: July 10, 2013 Called, said could be compressor causing GFI to trip, received return prepaid label by email, called FedEx for pickup tomorrow. FedEx showed up with a delivery and agreeded to take this package today.
