I had a larger portable ice machine but returned it, b/c it was too big. I saw this one, perfect size & it didn't eat up too much countertop space. When it arrived it was packaged very well, no damage whatsoever. No sooner I get it out of the box, time to play! Ice was a bit soft when it was dispensed, pop it in the freezer to harden it or use it straight away, it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I live in area that has hard water, I used distilled water in an effort to preserve the life of the machine, evidently the sensor doesn't recognize distilled water, had to toss some salt in the water reservoir before it would start to make ice. Lastly, I had a heck of time getting the plastic taste out of the ice cubes, directions recommend using vinegar, must have gone overboard with the vinegar, b/c ice tasted like plastic & vinegar! If that didn't work then mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the water reservoir & let it sit for 24 hours. That did the trick no plastic/vinegar taste, yay! Overall, I enjoy my little ice maker, more than I thought I would.

Sorry Koldfront building this machine was an outright mistake. It is difficult to fill, makes very little ice, and shuts off on its own (as designed). We live in an RV and have used a Magic Chef ice maker for years. It finally died, and based on reviews we bought this one. If I still had the box I would return it. Unless you like standing next to the ice maker waiting for it to make ice when you need it save your money and buy something else. I ordered the Magic Chef MCIM30SST which is identical to our old reliable that recently died.
Incidentally my issue is with the ice maker, not the seller. They performed as promised.

This is a really handy little ice maker. I love ice, and now I have it ready whenever I want it. The machine arrived promptly, well packaged and undamaged. I cleaned the machine surfaces as directed and then ran 5 or 6 icemaking cycles to clear out any chemical traces in the mechanism. You just pour in the water (with the cup provided), hit ON, and it starts to make ice. If you fill the reservoir to the FILL line, you will have to empty the ice bucket after a a couple of cycles because it will fill up. When it has used all the water, it will stop and notify you on the screen that it needs more water. I put my ice maker next to the kitchen sink so it is easy to drain any left over water through the drain plug on the back of the machine. Remember, too, that the machine is not a freezer, so the ice will begin to melt when it dumps into the tray. Remove it promptly and you won't have to worry about melty ice cubes sticking together when you put them in the freezer for later use. If you forget to empty the ice bucket, the ice will simple melt back into the water reservoir and go through the icemaking cycle again. Not a problem, just a delay in getting your ice cubes.
