I've had this unit for a couple of months now and I am happy to report that it has functioned without a problem. I initially purchased an Edgestar unit which is supposed to be one of the better units. It only lasted five (5) days before it failed and I returned it. If you're debating between an Edgestar and this unit, buy the Great Northern unit.

After sitting in the box for the required hour to let the coolant drain back into the unit, we plugged it in added water and it made ice. Filled the tray and stopped, we emptied the tray and off it went making more ice.
Very quiet, none of the plastic tasting ice people are talking about with some models. The unit is not very large or very heavy. Should work great in our boat.

Bought the ice maker for camping. Started camping in June (Michigan) worked really well for june and july. Come august ice maker worked intermittently. Kept saying not enough water even though the tank was full. By September didn't work at all. Highly recommend no one waste $200 on a machine that works for less than 3 weeks.
